Runnels Academy students share essays of gratitude

- By: SHAYLEE FALCON Runnels Academy Student

Editor’s Note: Runnels Academy students were tasked with writing an essay describing what Thanksgiving means to them. Each student had the opportunity to write an essay, share their thoughts and family traditions. The Big Spring Herald will be featuring those essays for the holiday season.

For my Thanksgiving we go to my grandma’s house. At my grandma’s house we pray. Then we let grandma go first and then we go to get out food and go sit down at the counter table, or in the living room. After that we get dessert. My favorite is chocolate pie or cheese cake with strawberry jam. Then we talk about eat while watching a tv show. I am thankful for 501 W. 17th my family, food, and animals. After that we go to our deer lease and check and see what we need to buy. Then we drive to town and get groceries and supplies for camp. When we get back to camp, we unload the groceries. When it is dinner time we start the fire. We usually cook hamburger patties and fries or steak and a salad. If it’s deer season, we wake up at 6:30 in the morning and drive to the deer blind. We wait for a deer or a hog to walk out. To shoot a deer, it’s antler must be outside of it’s ears. If we shoot the deer, we have to tag it. Then we bring it back to camp and get the deer. After that we take it to a processor and pay the person money to process our deer. Next we wait for the person to call us back so that we can come pick up our (432) 267-1353 deer meat or you can donate the deer. Finally you can turn on the grill and start cooking.

When me and my family have Thanksgiving we go to our grandparents house and to other aunt’s and uncle’s house and every Thanksgiving something cool happens and we we always have fun and have a big Thanksgiving feast and have turkey and we have deviled eggs and beans and one of my grandparents have dogs.

Every Thanksgiving we go hunting for turkey to have it for dinner. We have pumpkin pie with whip cream on top, fruit, carrots and corn. We spend Thanksgiving with our loved ones and give thanks to the Lord whenever we bless the food. It’s a nice way to have a dinner.
