COAHOMA — The Bulldogettes were effective in shutting down the Grady Lady Wildcats to earn a 54-33 victory in a non-district game held on Tuesday night.

The Coahoma girls varsity squad kept Grady to only one basket in the first quarter while scoring 12 points of their own.

MaKynlee Overton scored first for the Dawgettes after she was fouled at the 7:14 mark. The CHS senior nailed both shots and sank a two-point basket 43 seconds later.

By the end of the quarter, Madison

Rodgers drained a shot thanks to an assist by her sister, Brynn Rodgers, to increase the lead to 102. Julia Cox capped off the successful quarter when she picked off the ball from Grady and headed down the court at full speed for the goal.

After the short break, the Lady Wildcats were able to brush off their slow start and scored in the double digits in the second quarter. However, the Bulldogettes continued their drive ending the half up 11 points (29-18) thanks in part to multiple 3-point goals from J. Cox and M. Rodgers.

Returning from the locker room, the Dawgettes continued to score in the double digits while playing great defense to fend off Grady's offensive attack. With the win, Coahoma improved to 3-2 for the season

Overton, J. Cox, and M. Rodgers tallied double digits for Coahoma. Overton led with 16, J. Cox had 14 points, and M. Rodgers earned 11.

Next: Coahoma travels to Fort Stockton on Friday. JV plays at 4:30 p.m. The varsity game starts at 6 p.m.
