Sylvia Ann Polanco, 77, went with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020. Viewing and visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. at Myers and Smith followed by burial at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

Sylvia was a lifetime resident of Big Spring, Tx and grew up on the Northside “el barrio”.

She was born on May 3, 1943, in Odessa, Texas to Juan and Ramona Polanco.

Sylvia graduated from Howard College in 1970 with a degree in Nursing. She started her nursing career at Hall and Bennet and retired from the Big Spring State Hospital after 35 years of nursing.

Sylvia was a member of Family Faith church for over 16 years and was a Christian.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Marguarete Davis and Cherri Josette Polanco; her grandson: Joseph Mata Gomez; her brother-inlaw: Gavino Rodriguez; and her best friend Irene Vega.

Sylvia is survived by her children: Carlos (Tyky) Mata Jr, Juan (Johnny) Polanco Mata and Josette

Mata, all from Big Spring; her grandchild­ren: Joe Michael Mata, Daniel Mata, Joey Mata, Andrea Mata Ybarra, Abraham Mata Gomez, Khloe Mata, Kameron Mata and Kylee Mata; her great grandchild­ren: Destiny Mata, Kylor Mata, Kynslea Mata and Andrew Mata.

She is the sister to Cynthia Torres, Emma Wilson, Mary Polanco and Gerd Polanco; her sisters in law: Lupe Rodriguez, Juanita Muniz and Lydia Hensley; her son in law: Tony Gomez; her aunt: Mary Mock: her lifelong neighbors of over 40 years: Maria Elena Hernandez and Olga Trevino; her best friends for over 60 years: Julia Correa and Sylvia Rodriguez; and her precious companions, her dogs: Diego and Sophie.

Sylvia is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Michele Chavez, Danielle Martinez, Max Hernandez, Sandra Torres, Jennifer Wilson, Justin Wilson, Shanna Garciaroiz, Estela Guevara, Israel Guevara, Gabriel Guevara, Stephen Rodriguez, Patrick Rodriguez, Becky Rodriguez and Richard Rodriguez.

Pallbearer­s will be Abraham Mata Gomez, Kameron Mata, Daniel Mata, Joey Mata, Mason Hernandez, Christian Hernandez and Max Hernandez.
