The gift of giving this Christmas

A simple act of kindness can bridge the gap between us

‘Tis the season for giving.

Big Spring Intermedia­te Principal Patsy Sanchez along with students and staff have been providing little tokens of appreciati­on throughout the community. As this year has provided its own share of challenges, finding the opportunit­ies to give back where needed can add a silver lining to the giver and the receiver.

For anyone who reads the news or turns into national coverage, it is evident that social distancing and separation across the nation is taking a toll on all ages. Locally there have been several efforts launched to bridge the gap that has been created.

“I’ve seen and read on the news how loved ones in nursing homes have gone so long without seeing their loved ones. I think of my dad who is 81 years old. Luckily, he lives next door to me so I’m able to care for him. Since Covid hit he has not left his home other than when I’ve taken him to get a haircut or to the doctor. He and my mom were married for 49 years. She died 2 months before their 50th wedding anniversar­y. She has been gone for 8 years now. He tells me he gets lonely and how the house seems so quiet. I can only imagine what it’s like for those in nursing homes that because of Covid, their loved ones cannot visit,” Patsy Sanchez, Big Spring Intermedia­te Principal said.
