Something to think about ...

-

Go search carefully for the child. ~ Matthew 2:8 I believe that human beings are seekers by nature. We are always searching for something.

We find ourselves searching for meaning, seeking significance, looking for more information, or just looking for our car in the parking lot. Too often, I’m simply trying to find the remote control. I think that my family intentionally hides it from me just for fun.

Why is that little device so difficult to find?

The popularity of internet search engines shouldn’t be all that surprising because human beings are always searching for something. It is simply a part of who we are. We want to know. We long to understand. Google has become so popular, most of us don’t know what we would do without it. 20 years ago, if you told someone to “Google it” they would have looked at you like you were crazy.

Now it is a part of our everyday life because we are seekers by nature.

It is also no surprise that our children love seeking games. Where’s Waldo, Hidden Pictures, I Spy, and Scavenger Hunts can keep our kids occupied for hours. In fact, I will never forget a time that my kids begged me to play hide and seek. They really wanted me to hide, and they loved searching to find me.

After several rounds, I decided I was making it way too easy, so I found a really good hiding place in our house. They searched and searched, but couldn’t find me. I could hear their voices in the other room. Pretty soon, they got distracted. After a little while, they decided to play another game. I was still hiding, but they stopped searching for me. I finally got tired of waiting and came out of my hiding place. They were into whatever new game they were playing and had forgotten all about me.

I wonder, are you still seeking after the Lord? Or have you gotten distracted by other games and stopped looking for Him?

One day God will come out from His hiding place. I wonder what He will find His children up to on that day.

God tells us through the prophet Jeremiah, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart!” (Jeremiah 29:13)

What are you searching for these days?
