‘Cleanup and Ride’ 40 Something Cowgirls host efforts to help Howard County Youth Horseman Club

Saddle up! The 40 Something Cowgirls are hosting a Cleanup and Ride event on Jan. 31 benefiting the Howard County Youth Horseman Club. The event will take place at the Howard County Youth Horseman Arena at 6147 Longshore Drive from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend and help clean up the HCYHC Arena that has recently been out of commission due to COVID-19, bad weather, and other various issues.

“The arena has gotten a little disarray... It's gotten overgrown... It hasn't been able to be tended to... They had to cancel all the events... So my organizati­on [40 Something Cowgirls] are going to go out there and clean up the arena to get it ready for the children of Howard County for their next season that will start in March or April,” Queen of 40 Something Cowgirls Terri Myrick said.

Big Spring Chapter of 40 Something Cowgirls is a national organizati­on of women who enjoy horseback riding and hosting a multitude of events that benefit the surroundin­g community. The Big Spring Chapter was created in 2019 and consists of many horsewomen who look to better themselves together through support and laughter. You do not have to own a horse, trailer, or any equipment to become a 40 Something Cowgirl – a love for adventure, riding horses, and being over the age of 31 is all that is required.

“40 Something Cowgirls is a national organizati­on of women who enjoy horseback riding and helping the community and just being overall good cowgirls,” Myrick said.
