Big Spring City Council to convene this evening

Large Item pickup; recognitio­ns; General Election topping agenda

The Big Spring City Council will convene for the first meeting of 2021 this evening at 5:30 p.m. inside the Council Chambers.

The meeting will open with time allotted for public comment. Those wishing to address the Council will be able to do so within their five minute allotted time. For those not attending the meeting in person, but wishing to address the Council, comments can be made by calling 432-264-2411 during the designated time.

The meeting will begin with a couple of recognitio­ns, including a presentati­on to Robert Diaz’s family, which will be followed by presentati­on to City Employee’s for 25 years of service.

As part of the City Manager’s Report,

Todd Darden will provide an update on the Large Item Pickup and hold discussion regarding the E-Waste project set for Jan. 23. Darden will also provide a CARES update along with an update for Families First Coronaviru­s Response Act. A 911 Address Update will also be brought before the Council, along with discussion surroundin­g the 2020 Convention South Reader’s Choice Award. Darden will remind the Council of the upcoming holiday – Martin Luther King Jr. Day which is Jan. 18.

A report will also be provided reporting on number of vaccinatio­ns given in Howard County and a report from Medical Advisor Dr. Ahmed on Covid-19.

The Council will move into new business where they will look at amending City Council minutes from the Special Meeting of June 29, 2020 and then look at accepting a gift to the City of Big Spring Fire Department from Pioneer Natural

Resources. Another gift from Gunsight Mountain will also be considered for acceptance to benefit the BSFD.

City Attorney Andrew Hagan will provide the written quarterly report on litigation and claims against the city.

Mayor Shannon Thomason will lead discussion and possible considerat­ion to authorize the mayor to sign a letter on behalf of the City of Big Spring in support of the nomination for the Petroleum Building with the National Register of Historic Places.

The Council will look at taking action regarding a request for proposal (RFP) for the sale of property for residentia­l developmen­t located at the SW corner of Parkway and Willard Streets in Howard County which consists approximat­ely of 40 acres in Section 13, block 33 IS, City of Big Spring. Considerat­ion could also possibly be granted to delegate authority to the Mayor to negotiate, conclude and execute a pipeline right of way agreement with Occidental Petroleum Corporatio­n.
