- By DUSTIN POPE Herald Sports Writer

In a week filled with unparalleled weather issues, the like has not been seen too often in this area. The Forsan Lady Buffalo Basketball team took on The Sundown Lady Roughnecks in a second-round playoff game in Seminole Thursday, Feb.18. The Lady Buffs didn't have any chance to practice this week due to power outages and lack of water. The young ladies lost to Sundown 43 to 52, closing out a fantastic year for the young team.

On a cold Thursday in Seminole, Texas. The Lady Buffalos took on the Lady Rughettes of Sundown. As the first period tipped off, the Sundown team was able to break through, making the first bucket of the game. Both teams were a little off to start the game due to a lack of practice time on both ends. As the first period rolled through, both teams would start to find the bottom of the basket. Regan Phillips hit three, 3 pointers in the first, accounting for all of Forsan's scoring to end the first period tied with Sundown nine to nine.

When the second period got rolling, the Lady roughnecks took charge, opening an eleven-point lead at one point. Forsan would continue to battle and fight to hang in the game. As both teams fought to keep their playoff dream alive, it was Sundown who would take the lead in at the half, with a score of 24 to 16.

To start the second half, both teams held serve with one another. Forsan came within six at one time, but every time they would close the gap, the team from Sundown had an answer and would stretch the lead back out. After a back and fourth third period, Sundown maintained its eight-point lead from the half with a 34 to 26.

The fourth and final period started with the Lady Buffs showing they would not go away quietly. The lady Buffalos would stay within striking distance for most of the last period; both teams had found their grove as the scoring stepped up for both teams. Forsan showed its toughness and resiliency clawing within six points, making it a two-possession game with .55 sec. left on the clock. Unfortunately, a comeback was not in the Forsan girls'

Forsan was lead in scoring by Regan Phillips, who had 17 points, followed by Rylee Evans, who chipped in 14. Both young ladies are Seniors this year, so this will be the last time they put on the Forsan Buffalo jersey. Both young women left it all on the court.

Coach Seth Johnson is so proud of his team. "This season started with COVID and ended with 'snow-vid', but if you walked into practice on any given day, you'd never know anything was out of the ordinary. The girls showed up with a smile on their faces, ready to go to work. That speaks to the character of this team. They will each have big opportunities outside of basketball because of their work ethic, dedication, and ability to roll with the punches. We were all thankful to have a full basketball season this year. It was a good distraction from 2020, and these girls, especially the seniors, have worked so hard to compete at a high level. We are also thankful to our Administration for finding and implementing safety protocols which allowed us to have a safe and healthy season."
