Steers golf team wins District opening tournmaent to start with a bang

The Big Spring golf team statrted District play. The Steers went on to win the first district meet by a fairly wide margain of 39 strokes over their clossest competitor the Levelland Lobos. The District tournament was played at two different courses. The first round took place March 24 in Sweetwater, it was followed by round two which took place this past Monday March 29 in Levelland.

The Big Spring Steers golf team wasted little time in the first round of the District tournamnet juming out to a 27 stoke lead over second place

Snyder. The Boys first round play was highlited by Alex Leuscner who shot a very impresive 76 on the Sweetwater course. Phillip Lopez came in with a 80 on his score card shotting a exepional round in his own right. Reese Harris shot a 85 on the challengin­g course. Christian Martinez followed suit with a 86. Elijah Gonzales rounded out the five man team with a score of 95. The combined score gave the Steers a overall score of 327 after the first round. Snyder came in second after round 1 with a team total of 354, followed by Sweetwater with a 365, Levelland shot a 367, and Estacado finished 5th after the first round with a team total of 522. Alex Leuscner shot the low round of the day for all the players when he posted his 76.

The second round plazy began at the golf course in Levelland. The Steers were lead once again by Alex, who had the low round of the day at 77. Phillip Lopez, and Reese Harris, and Elijah Gonzales each shot a 90 on the day, and Christian Martinez rounded out the five man team with a round of 95. After combing all the scores on the day the Steers would go on to finish in second place for the round finishing with a total score of 347, only one stroke behind levelland who had a 346 total. Because the Steers had such a dominate first round in Sweetwater they went on to win the tournament by a 39 stroke margain.

This golf team is something to behold when on the links, they all practice their craft and try to be the best golfers that they can be. The team wil continue to push on with District play when they statrt the second District tournament with the first round stating in mEstacado, then finishing up the District tournament on there home course here in Big Spring this coming Monday April 5. be sure to come out and show this team some support at he course. Its going to be a special year for this team.
