The Lady Steer Softball team took a road trip to San Angelo to face off against District foe the San Angelo Lake View Maidens. The Lady Steers came into the game with a 7-11 record and a 4-2 District record. Meanwhile, the Lake View Maidens had a record of 9-14. The Steers quickly dispatched the Maidens 11 to 0.

Big Spring started things in the top of the first when Kalyn Whitehead laced a hard-hit single. Two batters later, Jocelyn Gonzalez also had a single that drove home Whitehead for the Ladies' first run of the day. After a walk by Vanessa Viasana, Gonzalez scored on a passed ball from the San Angelo pitcher. Kylee Lynch then grounded to the third baseman, which allowed Viasana to score. That gave the Lady Steers a 3 to 0 lead after the top of the first. Vanessa Viasana took the circle for the Lady steers, and she did not disappoint. Viasana had an easy first inning of work, only allowing one base runner to reach via an error and allow zero runs.

Carrying a 3 to 0 lead into the top of the second, Sarah Wood lead off the inning with a walk. Arielle Nuno followed suit with back-to-back walks placing runners on first and second with no outs. The walk train continued when Cloe Viasana also was walked by the Maidens pitcher loading up the bases. Whitehead stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and showed her patience, earning the fourth walk in a row for the Lady Steers. The walk pushed Wood across to take the lead to 4 to 0. Alex Enriquez then laid down a bunt and reached base when the San Angelo catcher made an error on the play, allowing Nuno to score, increasing the lead to 5 to 0. The Lady Maidens were able to find the next two outs to end the Lady Steers' inning. Enjoying a five-run lead Viasana came out for her second inning of work. The Steer pitcher kept up the dominance as she went on to have an easy inning setting the Maidens down in order.

With a 5 to 0 lead going into the third inning, the Steers bats took an inning off the scoring. They did manage to get a few runners on base but did not score any runs. Lady Steer pitcher Viasana kept her momentum going with an easy three up three down inning.

As the fourth inning began, the Lady Steers still enjoyed a five-run lead. The San Angelo Lady Maiden pitcher got through the inning without giving up any more runs, leaving the score at 5 to 0 in favor of the Lady Steers. Viasana continued her dominance in the bottom of the fourth, getting great play from her defense behind her; the Lady Steer pitched yet another scoreless inning.

Leading five to nothing after four innings of play, the Lady Steers decided to tack on some insurance runs in the fifth. The big inning got started when Kylee Lynch singled on a ground ball to third. Brinley Watkins followed with a walk, placing runners at first and second. Wood then came up and executed a perfect bunt single that loaded up the bases. Nuno then came to the plate and reached base on an error scoring Lynch from third base and making it a 6 to 0 lead. With the bases still loaded up with Lady Steers, Whitehead worked the pitch count and earned another walk allowing another run to score. With a 7 to 0 lead and the bases still loaded up, Alex Enriquez worked a walk of her own to push across yet another run. Leading 8 to 0, the Lady Steers would not be done as they went on to score three more runs in the inning to take the lead of 11 to 0 after the top of the fifth. The Lady

Steers sent Viasana back out to finish what she stated. The Lady Steer pitcher finished just a strong as she started with a quick inning. Vianasa sat the Lady Maidens down to finish off the one-hit fantastic effort.

The win pushes the Lady Steers to an 8-11 record and a District record of 5-2. Big Spring is in a great place for making the playoffs. This team has grown leaps and bounds since the beginning of the season and seems to be playing their best ball when it matters. Next up, the Ladies take on Snyder in Snyder on Friday at 5 p.m.
