Scenic Mountain Medical Center Auxiliary is ready to bring back the jewelry sale May 20-21
Retail therapy can do wonders, but it's even better when that retail therapy offers support for a local organization. Scenic Mountain Medical Center Auxiliary's annual jewelry sale is set for May 20 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and May 21 from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., in the West Texas Medical Plaza lobby. Monies raised from the sale benefit the SMMC Auxiliary.
“This is one of the biggest fundraisers the volunteers have each year. It is a great opportunity to start working on your Christmas list for the year,” April Arms, SMMC Executive Assistant, said. “This allows for an opportunity to purchase some unique items and support a good cause at the same time.”
Last year the jewelry sale had to be put on hold due to the pandemic. However, the sale will be able to take place this year, with social distancing and the use of masks being required. Throughout the year, the volunteers hold fundraisers and take in donations, which are then distributed back into the hospital and the community. In addition to the jewelry sale, they have a bake sale, operate the gift shop and sale popcorn.
“This past year, the sale of popcorn was also put on hold with the pandemic, and the gift shop had limited hours to help do our part in slowing the spread and keeping our community, staff, guests and visitors safe,” Arms said.
“While the majority of the funds have been used to support different areas of the hospital, the outreach doesn't stop there. The ladies love to get involved and lend a helping hand, wherever there is a need.”
Over the years, funds have been used to purchase new chairs, redo the gift shop, and purchase new furniture for the lobby. The group has also provided scholarships for those who decide to go back to school to further their certifications and those who are entering the nursing program.
“We hope that the community will come out and see what they can find. There really is something for everyone included in the sale. We call it a jewelry sale, but there are clothes, children's items, purses and even some gift items for men,” Arms said. “This is also a great time for anyone interested in volunteering to come out and speak to one of our volunteers and see some of the things that we do.”
The West Texas Medical Plaza is located at 1601 W. Eleventh Place, next to Scenic Mountain Medical Center. For more information, or to find out how to donate to the SMMC Auxiliary, call April Arms at 432-268-4907.
