Big Spring ISD Board of Trustees look to set preliminary tax rate for 2021-2022 on Thursday
The Big Spring ISD school board will set a preliminary tax rate for the 2021-22 fiscal year, as well as a date for a public meeting to discuss the rate and the 2021-22 proposed budget, when it meets Thursday.
The meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the board room at Big Spring High School, 707 E. 11th Place.
The trustees will not officially approve the upcoming year's budget and tax rate at this meeting, but will set a preliminary rate and approve a preliminary budget to discuss at the upcoming public meeting.
Following the opening prayer and pledge at the start of Thursday's meeting, members of the public will have an opportunity to offer comments to the board.
District staff will report on bids for Career and Technical Education (CTE) and supplemental instructional supplies and equipment; the district's partnership with the Big Spring YMCA for after-school care of students; and the 2021
Preliminary State Assessment results.
The board will discuss House Bill 3 goals and hear and update on the bill. According to the Texas Education Agency website, HB3 is “,,,a sweeping and historic school finance bill...passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019 and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott. The bill provides more money for Texas classrooms, increases teacher compensation, reduces recapture and cuts local property taxes for Texas taxpayers.”
School board members will consider approval of the minutes of their July 15 regular meeting and of financial reports.
According to the meeting's agenda, the board will consider several Action Items for approval.
The board plans to reaffirm the Code of Ethics for the Board of Trustees, designated Policy BBF (Local). The board will consider approval of a delegate to the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Delegate Assembly, and consider approval of various donations.
The board will consider approval of an adjunct faculty
