Big Spring ISD Trustees to hold public hearing, special meeting

The Big Spring School DistrictBo­ard of Trustees has called two special meetings to take place this evening. The first will be a public hearing, set for 5:15 p.m., focused on the proposed 2021-2022 Budget and proposed tax rate.

The meeting will be opened with prayer and pledge.

The Oath of Office will be performed for Amy Baeza, who was appointed to the school board at its Aug. 11 meeting, before the public hearing.

Once the public hearing has opened there will be an overview of the budget and proposed tax rate before the board hears comments from the public.

At the conclusion of public comments the public hearing will be adjourned.

The second meeting will take place at 5:45 p.m. The meeting will also have an opportunit­y for public comment, after the opening of meeting.

The Board of Trustees will consider approval of final amended budget for 2020-21 and then move to approve proposed budget 2021-22. There will also be considerat­ion and possible approval of tax rate resolution for tax year 2021-22.

Once votes have been cast regarding the amended budget and tax rate, the discussion will move to personnel issues including employment, resignatio­ns, reassignme­nts, duties, performanc­e, problems and evaluation­s. This discussion, according to the agenda, is set to take place in closed session.

The Board of Trustees will reconvene to hear the Superinten­dent's Report. Included in the report provided by Jay McWilliams, the board will be presented with the enrollment report, Covid-19 update and District updates.

The community is encouraged to attend and voice their opinions, concerns and thoughts. The meetings will take place in the High School Board Room, located at 707 E. 11th Place.
