Finding a new purpose, turning it into art
Do you enjoy taking a drab, boring piece of furniture, accessory, or just plain junk, and repurposing it into a stunning work of art?
The Heritage Museum of Big Spring has a show coming up that's just perfect for you.
“We are doing a little art show with – I like to say it's ‘found art.' I just call it ‘found object art,” said Heritage Museum Archivist Michelle Worthan. “Basically, it's where you find something and you refurbish it, or change it up however, and turn it in to a new piece of art. Kind of like if you've seen that show Flea Market Flip Tips on TV where they go to flea markets or garage sales and they find an old lamp that could really be thrown away, and they turn it into a piece of art. Just that kind of thing, where you take something and you turn it into something totally different.”
Worthan stressed that the show is not an art contest, but rather a chance to show off your creativity and possibly sell your artwork to museum guests who love great artwork.
The show will run from Sept. 4 through Oct. 28.
“We are going to take submissions for it Sept. 1 and 2, during normal business hours – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Museum,” Worthan said.
