Memorial at the Plaza Rememberin­g 9/11 and the lives lost

A moment in history that is forever etched not only in the history books, but in the minds of those who were alive when it happened. This year marks the 20th anniversar­y of the terrorist attacks that took out the World Trade Center towers, resulted in a plane crashed in Pennsylvan­ia, the Pentagon attack, and the loss of countless lives – a moment that would forever change our nation.

On Sept. 11, 2001, an unexpected and tragic day took the lives of thousands of Americans, but brought a unity that can’t be rivaled. The 15th annual 9/11 Memorial Service will take place at Spring Creek Fellowship on Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.

“Last year’s remembranc­e looked a little different, and may this year as well with the current situation we are in, but we are still taking the time to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice,” Mike Tarpley, organizer of the Memorial at the Plaza annual event, said.

The ceremony will still include recognitio­n of those from Howard County, who lost their lives in wars following the Sept. 11 attack. The ceremony is projected to last less than an hour, and the community is invited to attend. Once again the ceremony will take place inside the sanctuary at Spring Creek Fellowship. According to Tarpley, this year the Big Spring High School Band and Rhapsody will be performing. The Howard County Volunteer Fire Department and the Cross Roads Young Marines will be offering their support in the ceremony as well.
