Players of the Week
Top Left: Kaegen Mitchell The Steers wide receiver had himself a night against the Vernon Lions this past Friday night; the WR was on fire all night long. Mitchell had 11 catches for a total of 138 yards with one TD. That TD pass was a 46-yard catch from QB Gabriel Baeza. Mitchell will be a force to reckon with all season long as he will be Baeza to WR. Top Right Ricky Escovedo The hard-hitting hybrid linebacker made his presence felt from sideline to sideline last Friday night against the Vernon Lions. Escovedo finished second on the team with ten total tackles and added one tackle for a loss. He also came up with a touchdown pass on a two-point conversion. Escovedo will be a leader on the defense all season long.
Top Left: Bryson Kerby picked up right where he left off last year. Kerby was far away from the best player on the field this past Friday night when his team faced the Forsan Buffaloes in the Howard County Bowl. The player had 25 carries for 152 yards and a TD, but he was not done because he chipped in 3 catches for 90 yards on top of that. Kerby dominated this game and will look to do so all season long. Top Right: Freshman Jaidyn Vineyard showed what the future of Forsan football might look like. The outstanding freshman tallied 12 total tackles, with one sack on the day he also had two carries for 81 yards, including a fantastic run of 75 yards that resulted in a TD. Coahoma may have lost this game, but both of these players shinned.
Top Right Major Stockton: Stockton led this team to its first victory in the Howard County Bowl in five years. The do-it QB put this team on his back and took them to victory. Stockton rushed for 103 yards on only ten carries and had two touchdowns on the day. One of those runs was a 52-yard scamper. This team has a bright future with Stockton on the field. Top Left: Cayden Morgan. Morgan was all over the field during the Howard County Bowl; the senior had a great 18 total tackles on the night. He was all over the field. The Coahoma Bulldogs had no answer for him as he could just not be blocked. He single-handedly disrupted this game and gave the Forsan defense the upper hand for most of this game. It is going to be interesting to see how he follows up this impressive performance going forward
