Jonathan Paul Sykes, 37, a resident of Big Spring, Texas, died at home surrounded by family and friends, Sept. 20, 2021, from a long battle with cancer. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

Jon is survived by his parents Pam Swinney and stepfather Bobby Swinney, and Earl Sykes and stepmother Connie Sykes; his wife, Melinda Kennedy; his children, Jahari Kennedy, Jaryn Vanover and Jalen Sykes; his grandchild­ren, Isley, Kit, and Legend; siblings, Ryan Kneesel, Justin Kneesel, Matthew Kneesel and Charissa Sykes.

Jon was born in Wisconsin on Jan. 19, 1984, to

Pam Swinney and Earl Sykes. He attended Roswell High in Roswell, N.M., then went on to play basketball for Howard Junior College & West Texas A&M.

Jon was a devoted father, uncle and friend. Jon made a life with Melinda Kennedy here in Big Spring, Texas, with their children, grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews. Jon enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, horseback riding and traveling. He was very strongly opinionate­d and loved to debate on every subject. Jon was full of life and enjoyed his friends and family. He was a great protector, had a heart of gold and a tongue of fire. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by brother Chad Kneesel; grandparen­ts, Eleanor and Richard Helt, Ever T Sykes and Joanne Neuhart.
