Howard Hawk Mens basketball team blow out Western Texas to get huge win

- Special to the Herald

The Howard College Hawks left no chance they would blow a big lead going down the stretch this time. Evidently, they learned from Wednesday's conference opener against Midland College. A game Howard blew a 12 point lead late, only to have Midland come back win in overtime.

The Hawks wasn't going for that. Instead they completely demolished Western Texas College 86-49 Saturday afternoon. A vicious Howard College pressure defense took the fight out of WTC early. Howard never trailed in the game. It started off appropriately with Sagna Blaize picked the opposing guard's pocked turning it into an easy layup. That's the way it was all game long, Howard flying all across the court, making steals, getting blocks, forcing errant passes.

The Hawks had their reel of offensive highlights also. For a while Bonny Udoh and Nester Dyachok had that inside-outside thing going. Udoh, a undersized 6-foot-5 post player, played the post game to perfection, scoring inside at will to go along with four dunks. Dyachok, a 6-foot-9 inch forward from Moscow,

nailed four threes.

Then you had the guard play of Sagna, D'Miri Wiltz, Jacoby Bishop and T.K. Hood, getting steals and dishing out assists, it was one powerful machine. The Hawks outscored WTC 30-16 the last 10 minutes of the first half. It was all said and done after that.

The Hawks will get a break and won't be back in action on Jan. 3. HOWARD (8-5, 1-1) Rahkiem Petterson 1 0 2; Blaize Sagna 6 2 15; D'Mri Wiltz 1 2 4; Jacoby Bishop 4 0 8; T.K. Bryant 5 2 14; Nester Dyachok 6 0 16; Bonny Udoh 10 4 24; totals 33-69, 10-13, 86.
