Focus on the Future The Heritage Museum of Big Spring

- By GEORGE BANCROFT Big Spring Area Community Foundation

The Heritage Museum provides Howard County residents and others with a wonderful venue through which we can explore the past, appreciate our present, and contemplate our future as a community. It is one of the many area organizations that has received a grant from the Big Spring Area Community Foundation. Tammy Schrecengost has long served as the museum's director and recently shared some information that would be of interest to anyone who has an affinity for Big Spring and Howard County.

How long has the Heritage Museum been open to the public?

The museum was founded in 1971.

What is your organization’s purpose, and what is it you hope to do for our community?

Our goal is to preserve and share Howard County's heritage and rich history.

What was the amount of the grant your organization received from the Big Spring Area Community Foundation?

The museum received a grand from the BSACF for $15,000.00. We made a request for gates and additional fencing to secure the museum property grounds. All the work has been completed.

What is exciting about your organization’s future that others need to know about?

The Heritage Museum continues to grow and flourish with new ideas, exhibits, and activities shared with the community.

If someone would like to help your organization reach its objectives, who should they contact, and how should that person be contacted?

The museum is always open to new ideas and opportunities. If anyone would like to contribute, they should contact Director Tammy Schrecengost at 510 Scurry. Tammy can also be reached by email at heritagemus@gmail.com or by phone at 432-267-8255.
