Coahoma strongmen and strongwome­n head back to work

Christian Everett and Hector Colon-Rivera led the Coahoma High School powerlifte­rs at their season opener by earning silver and bronze respective­ly at the Big Spring Invitation­al held Saturday.

Colon-Rivera (132) had a three-lift total of 845 pounds of iron in the boys division. He pumped 340 on squat, 160 on bench press, and 345 on deadlift. A two-time state qualifier in the sport, Everett had 205 on squat, 105 on bench press, and 225 on deadlift for a total of 535 pounds of iron for the day in the girls division.

Rounding out the top Coahoma finishers were 5. Kobe Cervantes (275), 5. Neveah Kirby (97), 5. Serena Dobbs (114), 5. Maci Green (165), 6. Zoie Joslin (105), 6. John Reagan (SHW), 7. Paul Mae Hagins (220), 8. Reagan Chapman (132), and 9. Nick Gonzales (275).

Next: Coahoma will head east on Saturday, Jan. 14, to compete at the Colorado City Invitation­al.
