Daddy’s Voice
When my mother and father told me to do anything, they didn't want me to do it anytime I wanted. They wanted me to do it as soon as they told me. When only my mother asked me to do anything, I would hesitate just a few minutes. But when my father spoke, I hopped up and did it immediately.
Many times I would argue with my mother gently about something she asked me to do. If my dad was present, he wouldn't let me do it for long. He would say, “Lillian, mind your mother.” I did.
When I would hear my daddy's voice, I would immediately perk up and listen to what he had to say. Many times he would give me instruction about a job that needed to be done. More often than not, he would do the job while instructing me how to do it. Now I can still hear his voice in my everyday life with his gentle instructions as I take on a new task.
In my younger adult days, I heard the voice of my Heavenly Father, as He led me to His Son's salvation on the cross for me. Kinda sounded like my dad's voice.
Now He instructs me in the way I ought to go, and gently leads me by the hand. He has never steered me in the wrong direction. And when there is a new task to be done, He shows me how to do it. Sometimes He even takes over and does it Himself, all the while showing me how to get it done.
When Jesus comes to take us Home to be with Him forever, He will do it with the clarion call of the trumpet and His still small voice will become a shout of triumph. He will tell us, “Come up here.” Then we will hear His voice forevermore.
