Big Spring ISD Choral Department has stellar year
The Big Spring ISD Choral Department consisting of Big Spring HS, Big Spring JH and Big Spring Intermediate, all had an outstanding 2021-2022 school year! Big Spring High School and Junior High, under the direction of head director Gershom Garcia, and associate directors including Lowell Castolenia, Ashley Skinner and Josiah Garcia, attained high achievement in regional and state competitions! Big Spring HS Choir had nine students make the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) AllRegion Choir including Kaegan Baker, Ty Cochrane, Krista Coffman, Robert Fierro, Kirstyn Gusman, Caeden Gutierrez, Naomi Reyes, Ben Robertson, and Brianna Vargas. Baker, Cochrane, Coffman, Fierro, Gusman and Reyes advanced to the Pre-Area and Area audition rounds which is very competitive pulling in singers from across nearly half of the state including El Paso, San Angelo, Midland/Odessa, Amarillo and Abilene. These top singers are all vying for a spot in the Texas All-State Choir! Over 20,000 students around the state of Texas participate in the Texas All-State process with only the top 2% achieving the status of making the Texas All-State Choir. Big Spring HS is extremely proud that four students—Baker, Cochrane, Fierro and Reyes— earned placement in the 2022 Texas All-State Choir! Having just one All-State student for a school is a big deal, and, having four students make All-State is considered an astronomical achievement for the school and district! These four students performed for the 2022 TMEA Convention in San Antonio at the Henry B. Gonzalez
