Rocky Torres, 60, of Big Spring, Texas, died on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at his residence.

A vigil service will be held Friday, July 15, at 7 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

Rocky was born on January 20, 1962, in Ft. Polk, Louisiana. He came to Big Spring in 1975 with his family, graduated in 1980 from Big Spring High School, and joined the United States Marine Corps. Rocky completed U.S.M.C. basic training at the top of his class and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, until his discharge in 1983. He welcomed his first child in 1986 with his high school sweetheart Linda Rangel and earned his License Vocational Nursing certificat­ion from Howard Community College in 1990.

Rocky was a devoted father, brother, uncle, grandfathe­r, and public servant. He held a distinct level of pride in country, community, family, and Big Spring Steer Football under the Friday Night Lights. Rocky dedicated his life to helping others. He placed the welfare of those who could not do for themselves above all else. He held his position as a Nurse in the highest regard, evident in his 17year career at Big Spring State Hospital, caring for adolescent and geriatric residents. Continuing on to his greatest honor of having the opportunit­y to care for Veterans at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Nursing Home for an additional 15 years.

Rocky was a remarkable soul guided by honor, duty, respect, and service to those less fortunate. In his final years, Rocky found peace and joy in helping care for his grandchild­ren and spending time with his family. Survivors include three sons, Christophe­r Martinez of Lubbock, Texas, Camron Torres of Colorado City, Texas, and Rocky Torres of Goodyear, Ariz.; two daughters, Clarissa Torres of Big Spring and Hali Trevena of Conroe, Texas; two brothers, Marco Torres of Laredo, Texas, and Valentin Torres III, of Plymouth, Mass.; four grandsons; nine granddaugh­ters and was a loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentin Torres Jr. and Amelia Ochotorena Torres; sister, Debra Molina; brother, Ricky Torres; and daughter, Monica Rubio.

Pallbearer­s will be Mark Anthony Torres, Sergio Torres, Marco Torres Jr., Joaquin Torres, Seve Watson, Vincent Marchesell­i, Eddie Gonzales and Sonny Larez. Honorary pallbearer­s will be Brocky Jones, USA Capt. Daniel Torres, Michael Dutchover, Jose Vasquez Jr., Gus Ochotorena Jr., Nolberto Ochotorena Jr. and Matthew Martinez.
