Jesus Did It

-

When I was a child, Momma would ask her six children who did so and so, or this or that. Most of us would answer, “Not me.” Or “Someone else did it.” Or “Why do you always think I did it?”

There should have been one more child named Not Me in our family, because he always got the blame when something went wrong. I'll never understand the workings of a child's mind when he or she really did do it, but they deny it to their dying day.

My mother was a very wise woman. One day when we all denied breaking something of value, she made us take a piece of paper and write yes or no on it to indicate whether we did it or not. We didn't know whose handwriting she recognized but someone admitted it on their piece of paper. No one got punished that day. But it taught the one who did it, that it was better to tell the truth than to tell a lie.

Even in our world today adults as well as children deny their wrongdoings. They will deny they did anything wrong becausethey are either embarrassed about the wrong, or they don't know how to shoulder the blame. When my brother got caught lying about something, it was just to deny it and for no other reason. My mother knew he did it, he knew he did it, and all of the rest of us kids knew he did it. But his first reaction was to deny it. He got in worse trouble then because he wouldn't tell the truth. In God's Word, Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh to the Father, but by me.” He teaches us to tell the truth. He told Pilate the Roman governor who condemned Jesus to the cross, that He was the truth, and Pilate asked the ageold question, “What is truth?” Then he sent Him to the cross.

When Jesus died upon that cross, He became all the lies, thievery, adultery, profanity, immorality, and every other sin we can think of, so I would be set free from all of the guilt and wages of that sin. No wonder He died of a broken heart. It burst within Him because of the weight of my sin. Now if anyone accuses me of my sin, I truly can say Jesus did it. He was my sin paying my penalty for me on my cross of shame.

The Way, the Truth, and the Life died on the Cross for me, to pave the Way to God, the Truth of God, and New Life in Him, so I could one day be in Heaven with Him. He rose again according to the Scripture which can never lie. Jesus is guilty because He did it all for me so I could be free. Then He conquered it all for me and forgave me, and I don't have to feel guilty anymore. Yep, Jesus did it all.”
