Coahoma’s Gonzales nabs silver at CC Invitation­al

COLORADO CITY — Nick Gonzales muscled his way to a silver medal in his weight class to help the Coahoma High School Bulldog powerlifti­ng team to a strong showing at the Colorado High School Invitation­al on Saturday.

The CHS senior lifted a hefty 1,265 total pounds of iron in the 275 weight class. He recorded 540 on squat, 320 on bench, and 405 on deadlift. Brandon Cortez and Jacob Padron finished the competitio­n in fourth place. Cortez had a three-lift total of 810 pounds in the 132s, and Padron recorded 920 pounds in the 198s. Bryce Davis finished fifth overall in the 123s. The team finished ninth out of 12 participat­ing schools.

Next: Bulldog powerlifte­rs will compete at their host meet on Saturday.
