Fatal accidents claim three last week

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports that three individual­s were killed in West Texas fatal accidents Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week.

On Thursday morning at about 9:30 a.m.., Jose Ricardo Arreguy, 67, of Pecos was driving his 2003 Ford F-150 east on Interstate 20 Service Road two miles west of Pyote in Ward County when he drove off the road into a barrow ditch. He then reportedly overcorrec­ted, heading back across the roadway and rolling the pickup.

Arreguy was transporte­d to Ward County Memoriall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by staff.

Accident investigat­or Adriana Loredo of the Texas Highwy Patrol in Kermit determined that Arreguy was wearing a safety belt at the time of the wreck. Weather was clear and road conditions were dry.

On Friday at about 8:33 a.m., Reyes Rodriguez, 30, of Del Rio was driving his 2019 Ford F-250, and towing a trailer, north on US Highway 285 about 10 miles south of Orla in Reeves County when he attemmpted to pass another vehicle. Heriberto Hernandez-briones, 53, of El Paso was driving his 2019 Chevrolet

Silverado, also towing a trailer, south on the same highway. In his attempt to pass, Rodriguez reportedly swerved into the southbound lane, striking Hernandez-briones vehicle. The collision caused Rodriguez' vehicle to roll over in the roadway. Hernandez-briones' truck came to rest in the barrow ditch alongside the southbound lane.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Justice of the Peace Roger Harrison of Reeves County. Hernandez-briones was taken to Reeves Regional Health in stable condition.

Trooper Brady Koveleskie of the Texas Highway Patrol in Pecos, Hernandez-briones was wearing his safety belt, while Rodriguez was not. Weather at the time of the accident was reported as clear, and road conditions were dry.

On Saturday at about 7:32 a.m., William Edward

Jansen, 66, of Loveland, Colo., was driving his 2004 Peterbilt truck with trailer on a private drive west of State Highway 349, about 16 miles south of Midland. Colton Allen Turner, 22, of Lexington, Okla., was driving his 2008 Dodge Ram south on State Highway 349. According to the report, Jansen failed to yield right-of-way when he attempted to enter the highway, turning north from the private drive. A collision between the two trucks resulted.

Jansen was reportedly not injured in the wreck.

Turner was pronounced dead at the scene by Midland EMS.

The investigat­ion by Trooper Sean Hazel of the Texas Highway Patrol in Midland discovered that Jansen was wearing his safety belt, while Turner was not.

Weather at the time of the wreck was clear, and road conditions were dry.
