Big Spring Basketball: Steers and Lady Steers fall to Levelland

Both the Steers and Lady Steers lost their district games against Levelland Monday night with the Steers losing 52-17 and the Lady Steers losing 58-19. Big Spring will be back in action this Friday as they get set to host Lubbock Estacado at Steer Gym. Tipoff for the girls game is 6:15 p.m. and the boys game is set for 7:30 p.m

After coming away with huge district wins over Sweetwater last Friday, the Steers and Lady Steers headed into their district matchup against Levelland with some momentum on their side.

However, the Lobos and Loboettes had plans of stifling Big Spring's momentum. The Lobos defense was relentless as they came away with a huge 52-17 win over the Steers. On the girls side the result was the same as the No. 6 Loboettes handed the Lady Steers a huge loss winning 58-19.

BIG SPRING LADY STEERS 19 LEVELLAND LOBOETTES 58

In the girls game, both Big Spring's and Levelland's offenses struggled early on as the Loboettes scored only eight points in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Levelland began to finds it rhythm offensivel­y as they scored 22 points. Levelland's defense did its job holding Big Spring scoreless for most of the quarter.

The Lady Steers would finally get on the board with just a minute left in the first half, however the Loboettes would head into the half up 30-3. The Loboettes offense opened the game putting another 22 point run. That would be enough to for Levelland to cruise to the win. Big Spring's was led by Erin Foresyth who finished the game with 8 points.

The Lady Steers are now 8-16 overall and 2-4 district will host Lubbock Estacado Friday night at Steer Gym. Tipoff is set for 6:15 p.m.

BIG SPRING STEERS 17 LEVELLAND LOBOS 52

On the boys side, defense proved to be the main factor much like in the girls game, as the Lobos defense held the Steers to just 17 points in their win. Just in the first half alone the Steers offense could only muster 11 total points. Levelland headed into halftime with a 22-11 lead.

The Steers offensive struggles continued in the second half as the Steers scored only 6 points in the third quarter and went scoreless in the fourth. Levelland cruised in the second half in their 52-17 win.

Big Spring was led by Eli Cobos who finished the game with 8 points and Connor Miller contribute­d 3 points in the loss. The Steers are now 5-16 overall and 1-3 in district will host the Matadors from Lubbock Estacado Friday at Steer Gym. Tipoff is set for for 7:30 p.m.
