Coahoma strongmen and strongwome­n excel at host meet

Coahoma powerlifte­rs pose for a photo following their host meet.

The Coahoma High School powerlifti­ng team continued to show gains and earned eight medals at their host meet held recently.

The Bulldogett­e team finished as the runner up with 31 points after losing the tie-breaker to Ozona for the championsh­ip title. The Bulldogs also lost a tie-breaker with Stanton and ended in fourth place with 24 points.

Christian Everett earned gold for her three-lift total of 590 in the 97 weight class. Also earning gold was Serena Dobbs with a total of 690 in the 114 class.

Nevaeh Kerby placed second in the 97s. She pumped a total of 585 pounds of iron during the event. Three other Coahoma athletes earned silver. They were Marianna Glover with a three-lift total of 545 in the 132 class, Brandon Cortez, who had a total of 810 pounds for the meet in the 132 class, and John Reagan with a three-lift total of 995 in the SHW class.

Nick Gonzales rounded out the medal winners for Coahoma. The CHS senior lifted 1,340 pounds of iron to earn bronze in the 275 class.
