Barbara Ballard
Barbara Ballard, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel with burial at Coahoma Cemetery.
Barbara was born Oct. 18, 1948, in Big Spring, to Marie and Marvin Johnke. She married Bill Ballard in 1997. She was a lifetime resident of Big Spring; she was an active and faithful member of Baptist Temple.
Barbara drove a bus for BSISD for many years; happily retired, then returned to assist as a bus monitor. She enjoyed the time she spent as a volunteer at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Her passions were: her dogs, the time she spent with horses, bargain hunting and nurturing roses. She was loyal and steadfast to those who knew her well. Barbara established many relationships and preferred to handle all of her affairs face to face, therefore developing many close relationships with people who appreciated her quirkiness.
Barbara is survived by: 2 nieces, Kelsee Johnke and Cecelia Johnke of Lubbock; sister-in-law, Maria Johnke of Lubbock; 3 stepsons: Bill Ballard (Pat) of Culpeper, VA and Courtney Ballard (Kelli) of Big Spring and Kent Ballard (Tammy) of Guthrie; 2 stepdaughters: Altie Winn (Mark) of Coahoma; and Kim Ballard of Big Spring; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 cousin, Wayne Johnke; and loving pets, Gracie and Peanut.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents: Marvin and Marie Johnke; husband, Bill M. Ballard; brother, Marlin Johnke; stepdaughter, Barbara Ballard; and stepson, Tim Ballard.
Pallbearers will be: Tanner Ballard, Jeremy Winn, Cody Burris, Treagan Kendrick, Kent Ballard, CJ Ballard, Wayne Johnke and Logan Bloodworth. Honorary pallbearers will be: Timothy Ballard, Travis Ballard and Toryn Kendrick.
