Commissioners congratulate County Clerks for Texas Health and Human Services recognition
At their meeting Monday, Howard County Commissioners congratulated County Clerk Brent Zitterkopf and his assistant, Angie Worley, for receiving a recognition from Texas Health and Human Services.
“This is for the vital statistics, which is the marriages, and birth and death certificates,” Zitterkopf told the commissioners. “Angie's the one who takes care of the bulk of that. The job just gets bigger and bigger every year.” Zitterkopf added.
Zitterkopf said that the Howard County Clerk's office has a pretty good record when it comes to vital statistics.
“This year we got the fivestar award, which means we did all of the things we were supposed to do,” he said. “We get it most years, and again this year. It's mostly Angie that does all that. We all work on it to a point, but Angie's the one in charge of it.”
The meeting kicked off at 3:30 p.m. Monday, following a workshop which started at 1 p.m.

Emergency Management Coordinator Itzel Gomez, spoke to the commissioners about two issues, the first being emergency warming centers.
“With the weather as unpredictable as it is – if we think back to Snow Storm 2021 – we have the liberty, or the local jurisdiction, to decide whether to open emergency warming centers and shelters for the public or even the homeless population,” Gomez said.
Gomez elaborated that if the county were to decide to open a warming center or shelter that they would need pertinent information regarding operations and the logistics of it all.
Gomez also spoke to the commissioners regarding the purchase of an emergency radio.
Gomez stated that the purpose would to be informed and aware of any incidents that may occur in the county.
Next, County Treasurer Sharon Adams presented personnel considerations and the monthly payroll report for January, both of which were unanimously approved.
