Advice from local business owners

Question: How do you keep your employees (or team members) motivated and ready for action?

CATHY NUETZI STATE FARM INSURANCE

“I let them know we are all in this together, we are a team and we will get through it as a team. I do not ask my team to do anything I, myself will not do. They know that I am their biggest supporter and want to help them in any way I can. It is all about participation and as long as we participate together we will succeed!”

WAYNE WILLIAMS THE OAK TREE AND MORE

“We treat our team members as if they were our family ...... We promote a friendly enviroment for our employees and customers. In turn it makes our store a place you want to work and shop.”

CHARLES PISAENO

ICON’S GRILL

“We believe you should bring your team together before the shifts start and tell them about the night’s specials. Offer contests for the servers to promote items. Let them know what they are doing great before you ever say what they should work on.

Also, always remember to say thank you to your staff for their hard work. Let them know they are appreciated.”

BONNIE CLAYTON

LEARNING LADDER

“I work with my team, I give them respect. They see how hard I work and they know they can work just as hard. I listen to them, I ask for their opinion and suggestions. It is very important to listen to them, let them know that I trust them and value them. They know that I am always here to help them and that I will not ask them to do anything that I will not do myself. I am so proud of all my team, I just want to give each one of them a great big pat on the back to let them know how much I appreciate all their hard work and their respect they give to me. We are a team and a family. We do this together!”

DANIELLE SUNDWALL

HOLY SMOKES

“I believe it is important that we always give positive feedback! We encourage each other by lifting each other up every day!” It is important to always give encouraging words, showing gratitude and reminding them we are doing this together. I do not ask them to do something I would not do myself. I am a true believer that we must make each day count because you are not guaranteed tomorrow. You have to let people know you care! They all know my favorite quote “Live each day as if it is our last.”

I am truly Blessed to have these people in my life. They don’t just work for me, they are working with me. We are all in this together. We are not just a team, we are a family! That is what helps keep all of us motivated and feeling blessed!”

ART MORALES NATIONAL BANK OF ARIZONA

“Optimism, opportunity and sticking to the basics is how I have been able to keep fellow team members motivated and ready for action.

Optimism: Every situation is temporary and things will always get better. What we learn and how we respond during times such as these will only make us better for the future.

Opportunity: Times like these force us to execute on ideas or processes previously delayed. Times like these separate the professionals from the novices.

The Basics: Communication and learning. Now more than ever, it is of utmost importance to maintain communication with business partners and clients. And to continuously keep learning and not give in to frustration.”

TRACEY MIXON KACTUS KUSH CBD

“We make work fun!! We aim to support our employees in whatever way we can but give them the latitude to connect with our customers and share our vision for healing and education surrounding Cannabis and Hemp!”

RAMON GUTIERREZ

TACO MONSTER

“The way I keep my team motivated is by leading by example and not simply managing.I believe anyone can tell people what to do but it takes a special skill to lead your team and show them everyday that there is no task too small or too big that myself as the owner won’t do.

From cleaning the restaurant to getting on a register taking orders, taking out the trash or mopping a floor. By doing this I feel it greatly expresses the vision we have at Taco Monster. That we fight for what we believe in & that with my team together we will go far.”
