MARINE AUDIO

Fusion reaches a high note with the launch of Apollo.

- By Jim Hendricks

Most marine stereos are made by companies that dabble in the boat market, with the vast majority of sales and engineering efforts concentrated on the automotive side of the business. New Zealand-based Fusion, on the other hand, dedicates its energy and resources exclusively to marine applications, and the new Apollo series takes that focus to a new level.

The RA770 head unit ($649.99, thegpsstore.com) is the flagship of the Apollo series, featuring a one-piece 4.3-inch glass touchscreen display, built-in Wi-Fi streaming, digital signal processing (DSP) and PartyBus capabilities. Users can simply tap the screen to pause and play or review a playlist. The Apollo series also includes the more compact SRX400 head unit ($349.99, crutchfield.com) with a 2.7-inch display.

Apollo’s DSP technology is designed to deliver premium sound to all speakers using the free Fusion-Link app. Boat owners can custom-tune each speaker for a specific environment, be it the open air of the aft cockpit, the shared space of the salon or the privacy of a master stateroom.

The PartyBus audio distribution network gives boaters the power to add more stereos to the onboard entertainment system. Each PartyBus-enabled stereo gives you the option to play the same perfectly synced audio source through the entire vessel. Boaters can also opt into personal mode and listen to audio sources from the stereo in their zone.

Apollo is also the first marine Wi-Fi stereo. It will wirelessly connect to provide fuller, richer sound quality than you might experience with Bluetooth wireless connectivity. The series is also Bluetooth-enabled.

The RA770 has two RCA auxiliary inputs, one SPDIF port for TV audio output, one Ethernet port, one USB 2.0 port for phone charging and media playback, one SiriusXM port, one Motorola antenna connector port, and it is DAB+ ready. The SRX400 has one Ethernet port and one Motorola antenna connector port. Both devices offer multilanguage support. To learn more, visit fusionentertainment.com.
