October is Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month at the Collier County Domestic Animal Services. “All adopted cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated against rabies before you take them home, which saves [you] hundreds of dollars,” says Daniel Christenbury, public information coordinator for Collier County Public Services.

Adoption fees generally range from $20-$80 for kittens and puppies to senior pets. Reduced adoption fees are available to seniors (60 or older) and active or retired military. Half-price adoptions are available for adult and senior dogs and cats (puppies and kittens under 4 months excluded). Other pets such as gerbils, ferrets and birds are available at or below market rates. All pet adoptions are first-come, first-served.
