The Cougars and Lady Cougars opened up our district season against Channing on Friday.

The girls came out fired up for their first ever district game and it showed. The girls opened the game with a first quarter score of 26-0, and at one point in the second quarter were up 43-0. From there, we took our foot off the gas a little bit on offense and got maybe just a little sloppy on defense in the second half. However, we opened up the district games the way we wanted and took a great win 64 to 14.

Natalia led the way with a double-double 23 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals. Dehlilah was not far behind with her own double-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 steals. Stephanie had a near double-double with 10 points and a team high 9 assists to go along with 4 steals. Joselin played some great defense with 4 steals, and added 4 points of her own. Kloe ended with 2 points and 5 rebounds. Ana had 2 points and 5 steals. NJ finished us off with 2 points and 4 steals. This was our first district win and it was also the first time that every girl who played scored!

The boys started off the game with some intensity of their own taking a big 26 to 3 lead after one quarter. They kept it going and went into halftime with a 38 to 5 lead. In the second half, we kept the offense going strong, but did take our foot off the gas on defense a little bit. But again, in the same fashion as the girls, the boys also took a big win 73 to 23.

Eric led the points with 22 points and had 6 rebounds. Sergio had a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and added 6 assists. Reggie also had a double-double with 10 points, 11 assists, and 6 rebounds. Ulises had a big game with 8 points and a game high 15 rebounds. Noah, Jerald, Alejandro, and Brett had 4, 3, 2, and 2 points respectively. Perhaps the most exciting news was Edward hitting his first career basket with a big 3 pointer. We knew his time was coming! This was another good team effort in which every boy we had scored a point in the game.

This was a good way for us to start off our district matchups and we hope to continue to improve. We know some of the upcoming games will be a lot tougher and it is important that we win matchups when we can. The Cougars and Lady Cougars will travel to Hartley on Tuesday to play the Tigers (in what will be a rematch for the boys).

Thank you for all of the support we had, from the two junior high games to the two high school games. Continue to support the Cougars and Lady Cougars!
