I’M A BIG EMBRACE-THEMOMENT PERSON, but right around now, I look ahead. Mainly, I am thinking about checking off every winter comfort food I still want to eat (truffle fries), each toasty wool sweater I still want to wear—and, darn it, I still need to ski. Then, I’m all over the spring thing: I want to buy a seed and water it. This will be the year, I think to myself, that I shall grow my own vegetables and serve them at a table garnished with fresh-fromthe-garden flowers. (The fantasy world, clearly, runs amok.) So this early-spring edition of Boston Common is a beloved issue for me, brimming with late-winter treasures (check out the city’s coolest new restaurants on page 64) and all of the promise of a seasonal bloom (see our six “must-do” spring activities on page 55). I encourage you to pore over every single page.
On the cultural front, Boston’s social butterflies are starting to flutter about as the temperatures warm. I look forward to spreading my party wings, too—first, on March 4 at the eighth annual Lenny Zakim Casino Night at the Four Seasons, where guests will help raise money for the Lenny Zakim Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering under-resourced people and communities.
Then, at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, I will be celebrating with the American Society of Interior Designers New England Chapter Annual Award winners at the post-show gala on March 31. Maybe one of them will help me design a new dining room—to complement my freshly cut flowers.
