TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE

ROYAL JEWELERS OWNER AND WATCH EXPERT STEVEN LEED SHOWS US HIS VERY PRECISE WORLD.

- BY LISA PIERPONT

Royal Jewelers owner and watch expert Steven Leed shows us his very precise world.

Every day, in the early afternoon, Steven Leed expects a call. A few calls, actually. It could be an executive who lives near Royal Jewelers, Leed’s timepiece and jewelry empire in Andover, who just heard about a cool new white-dialed watch from Ulysse Nardin. Or a customer from the Middle East who has his heart set on the latest Dewitt. Carrying world-class timepieces such as these (plus fine jewelry from the likes of Hearts on Fire, Mikimoto and David Yurman), the family business, now lead by Steven and his sister, Paula, is considered a global resource for watch collectors.

While he’s helped thousands of high rollers find their ideal statement pieces, Leed, a watch collector since he was a kid, has amassed an enviable bounty himself. “They are fabulous works of art,” Leed says of his Piaget, Breguet, and Cartier pieces. “There’s a perfect watch for every mood.” Here, he shares his springtime favorites.

SPORTY ELITE

“The Executive Skeleton Tourbillon from Ulysse Nardin ($38,000, LEFT) is for the forward-thinker, the innovator. It requires confidence to wear this titanium piece. I think of black jeans and a tee when I see this—it’s fashion meets high tech.”

FEMME EXTRAORDINAIRE

“This Dewitt model from the Golden Afternoon collection ($39,600, CENTER) [is perfect] for the “Chanel woman”— sophisticated and smart. The delicate mother of pearl dial is gorgeous, and with the feather-shaped hands, the watch is a quiet beauty. She can wear it with a tailored dress or a gown.”

MAD-DASH EXEC

“Think James Bond. The Oris Artelier Calibre 112 ($8,400, RIGHT) is the perfect watch for the elite international businessman. It’s a mechanical watch that runs for 10 days in two time zones. Understated and elegant, it looks great with a suit.” 58 Main St., Andover, 978-475-3330; royaljewelers.com

“FINE TIMEPIECES ARE FABULOUS WORKS OF ART. THERE REALLY IS A PERFECT WATCH FOR EVERY MOOD.”
