Encarnacio­n’s three-for-all

Edwin Encarnacio­n hit three home runs, prompting Toronto fans to toss their hats onto the field in a hockey-style tribute, and tied a team record with nine RBI as the high-scoring Blue Jays routed the Detroit Tigers 15-1 yesterday.

Encarnacio­n extended his hitting streak to 24 games, the longest in the majors this season, and finished 3-for-5. He scored four times, and boosted his season totals to 29 homers and 90 RBI.

The Tigers have lost 8-of-9, while Drew Hutchison (13-2) won his fourth straight start.

Rangers 4, Orioles 3 — In Arlington, Texas, Bobby Wilson lined a tie-breaking single with two outs in the sixth inning, and Adrian Beltre hit his 13th home run as Texas beat Baltimore to increase its lead for the second AL wild card to 1A games.

Royals 6, Rays 3 — In St. Petersburg, Fla., Mike Moustakas had three hits and three RBI and AL Central-leading Kansas City beat Tampa Bay, which has lost 10-of-15.

Mariners 7, White Sox 6 — Kyle Seager hit a two-run home run during a three-run first and Seattle withstood host Chicago’s late rally.

Astros 4, Twins 1 — Mike Fiers (2-0) followed his nohitter with another stellar start for Houston, pitching into the seventh inning with three hits allowed to win in Minnesota.

Indians 8, Angels 3 — Yan Gomes’ eighth-inning grand slam capped a fiverun rally and host Cleveland defeated Los Angeles.

Yankees 3, Braves 1 — Luis Severino (3-1) allowed only four hits in six scoreless innings to lead New York to a victory in Atlanta.

A fan died after falling from the upper deck into the lower-level stands at Turner Field in the seventh inning. The man was in his early 60s and was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Athletics 3, Diamondbac­ks 2— In Phoenix, Stephen Vogt atoned for mistakes from the previous game, hitting a splashdown homer into the Chase Field swimming pool and driving in three runs as the Oakland beat Arizona.

National League

Nationals 5, Marlins 1 — Clint Robinson and Ian Desmond hit back-to-back home runs, Jordan Zimmermann (11-8) pitched seven innings and host Washington gained ground on the Mets for the first time since Aug. 19 by beating Miami.

The Nats will likely be without Denard Span for the rest of the year, however. The free-agent-to-be will undergo a procedure to repair a torn labrum in his left hip on Tuesday and expects his recovery to take 4-6 months.

Cardinals 6, Giants 0 — Lance Lynn (11-8) pitched neatly into the eighth inning for visiting St. Louis before leaving with a mild ankle sprain, beating San Francisco for the first time in his career. The NL Central leaders broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fifth.

Dodgers 5, Cubs 2 — Andre Ethier singled in a pair of go-ahead runs in the seventh inning, helping host Los Angeles rally past Chicago for its fifth consecutiv­e victory.

Reds 12, Brewers 9 — Joey Votto hit a go-ahead, tworun home run in the ninth inning and Cincinnati came back to win in Milwaukee.

Phillies 4, Padres 3 — Adam Morgan pitched six strong innings and drove in the eventual winning run, and Darnell Sweeney homered to lead Philadelph­ia over visiting San Diego.

Pirates 4, Rockies 3 — A resurgent J.A. Happ worked into the sixth inning, Aramis Ramirez hit a three-run homer and host Pittsburgh held off Colorado.

Elsewhere in MLB — The Mets and Arizona have agreed to a trade that would send reliever Addison Reed to the NL East leaders. The Diamondbac­ks will receive a pair of minor leaguers.
