HILLARY’S BENGHAZI OFFENSIVE

Warmth is gone as she blasts GOP

-

So much for humbler Hillary.

The Clinton campaign’s contrition tour is canceled due to poor poll ratings, and the former first lady is back at her most authentic: On the attack and blaming Republicans for everything.

You could see the newfound fire in Clinton’s eyes and confidence in her voice in a “Today” show performance where she acts indignant over the GOP’s Benghazi investigation — or as she’s calling it, “nothing but a partisan exercise.”

That little matter of that private email account? Insignificant.

“Obviously if I had to do it over again I wouldn’t it was allowed,” Clinton said, refusing to pause for even a breath between “wouldn’t” and “it was allowed.”

This is not someone who thinks she has to apologize.

It wasn’t a full-out “vast right-wing conspiracy moment” but it was close — right down to the same “Today” show setting.

This is the real Hillary we’ve learned to know and not love. After a few failed attempts at rebranding herself as warm and fuzzy, the Clinton campaign should just admit that she’s more comfortable in partisan attack mode.

Even Democrats who aren’t wild about Clinton believe that she’s being smeared by the mean Republican attack machine. So now that she’s facing her first debate and testimony before the Benghazi committee, it’s a good chance to roll out the aggressive Clinton we’re likely to see from now on.

And we have Kevin McCarthy to thank for that.

The California congressman is proving himself worthy of being GOP House speaker by helping the Democrats’ cause, just like his predecessors. His gloating about bringing down Clinton’s poll numbers violated one of the most important political rules: get out of the way when your opponent is sinking.

Of course, McCarthy didn’t say he “set up” the Benghazi committee to hurt Clinton as she claims, but it was close enough to allow

Democrats, the Clinton campaign and some media to claim that’s what he said. And that’s all that matters.

So Hillary now has some life — which may not be good news for Joe Biden. The vice president has dragged out the “I just might” run story too long and Democrats seem to be tiring of the indecision.

And with her new campaign mantra — “Republicans are out to get me” — Clinton may have finally found her true voice. It’s not an uplifting or inspirational voice. But it’s better than fake apologies.
