NU’s Coyne sets mark in victory

Kendall Coyne set the Northeaste­rn record for most career points with a hat trick as part of a four-point day as the No. 8 Huskies rolled to a 5-2 victory over New Hampshire in women’s hockey action yesterday in Durham, N.H.

Coyne now has 211 career points, three more than Hilary Witt, a 2000 NU grad and current coach of UNH (8-161, 5-10-0 Hockey East).

Hayley Scamurra and Taytum Clairmont also scored for the Huskies (17-4-1, 12-2-0), while Brittany Bugalski notched 25 saves.

Men’s hockey

Dartmouth 5, Holy Cross 2 — Brett Patterson scored two goals and Charles Grant recorded 34 saves as the Big Green (6-8-1) dropped the Crusaders (12-7-1) in Hanover, N.H.

Holy Cross entered the game with the nation’s longest unbeaten streak (8-0-1).

Women’s basketball

Boston College 73, Yale 60 — Mariella Fasoula compiled 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Eagles (12-3) over the Bulldogs (98) at Conte Forum.

Delaware 59, Northeaste­rn 52 — Claudia Ortiz netted 27 points but the Huskies (6-8, 1-2 Colonial) fell to the Blue Hens (7-7, 2-1) in Newark, Del.

UConn 75, So. Florida 59 — Morgan Tuck had 22 points and 12 rebounds, helping the No. 1 Huskies (14-0, 4-0 American) overcome cold shooting to pull away from the No. 22 Bulls (10-4, 3-1) in Tampa, Fla.

Men’s basketball

Saint Joseph’s 72, Rhode Island 67 — DeAndre Bembry scored 22 points, Aaron Brown added 19 and the Hawks (12-3, 2-1 A-10) dropped the Rams (10-6, 2-1) in Philadelph­ia. In top 25 action: Michigan St. 92, Penn St. 65 — Bryn Forbes scored 20 points, and the No. 5 Spartans (16-1, 3-1 Big Ten) welcomed back Denzel Valentine with a rout of the Nittany Lions (10-7, 1-3) in State College, Pa.

Villanova 60, Butler 55 — Josh Hart scored 22 points to help the No. 11 Wildcats (14-2, 4-0 Big East) get past the No. 18 Bulldogs (12-4, 1-3) in Indianapol­is.

SMU 88, UCF 73 — Ben Moore had a careerhigh 23 points and the No. 15 Mustangs (15-0, 4-0 American) stayed perfect by dropping the Knights (8-6, 2-1) in Dallas.

Clemson 66, Louisville 62 — Jaron Blossomgam­e scored 17 points to lead the Tigers (10-6, 3-1 ACC) over the No. 16 Cardinals (13-3, 2-1) in Greenville, S.C.

Illinois 84, Purdue 70 — Malcolm Hill scored 30 points to lead the Illini (9-8, 1-3 Big Ten) past the Boilermake­rs (14-3, 2-2) in Champaign, Ill.
