It's a sad reality that $1.8 million doesn't buy you all that much real estate in Boston's most desirable neighborhoods — but out in Norwell it will get you a custom-built home with more than 6,300 square feet of living space set on 10 acres of land.

“You get more land and privacy in Norwell,” said colisting broker David Murdock of Campion & Co., of the town 25 miles south of Boston.

The turreted five-bedroom house at 45 Judges Hill Drive sits atop one of the highest points in town and its widow's walk and roof deck offer stunning views, including a look at the ocean, which is located 14 miles away.

The 1991-built home, with professionally landscaped grounds, features a lot of tall Palladian windows that create a sunny and open feel throughout.

The marble entry foyer, lit by a tiered glass chandelier, has winding staircases that connect the home's three levels.

Though there are formal dining and living rooms off the foyer on the first floor, the main living space is an enormous kitchen dining/ great room that's perfect for entertaining.

The kitchen has dozens of stained-oak cabinets, Kitchen-Aid and Bosch appliances and a Jenn Air electric cooktop on a pendant-lit island. An adjacent breakfast nook steps down into a great room with 20-plus-foot vaulted ceilings, new hardwood floors and a floor-to-ceiling fieldstone chimney that vents a woodburning fireplace.

The great room leads out to a screened-in three-season porch or out through French doors onto an expansive rear deck. Beyond the deck lies a built-in swimming pool with a cabana. The second-floor master suite, which sits under two turrets has floorto-ceiling windows, a gas fireplace, a large walk-in closet and a door out to a widow's walk over the front portico. The master bathroom's whirlpool tub sits under a turret wrapped by windows, and a glass door that opens out to a spacious deck overlooking the backyard. Three other bedrooms and two full bathrooms are also on the second floor. At the end of the hall, a game room sits above an attached three-car garage.

The third floor holds a carpeted family room with a spiral staircase up to a rooftop turret surrounded by a teak-floor deck with panoramic views.
