Treiber, Toomey are brightest Stars

- By DAVID POLLARD

WESTWOOD — Led by four goals from Medfield’s Matt Treiber, Team String King claimed a 19-11 victory over Team STX in the fourth annual Boston Lacrosse All-American game last night.

“It’s better than coaching against Treiber,” said String King coach Steve Lydon, who’s seen plenty of the senior attacker in his capacity as BC High’s coach. “All of these guys though, this is a lineup full of guys who can score. With all the talent out there, you can expect to see a ton of goals.”

The 54 players in last night’s event, played at Xaverian, were selected by game staff. The String King team dominated the first half, taking a 7-1 lead as goalie Michael Toomey earned team MVP honors with a stellar first-half performance on his home field.

“Not all that surprising really,” said Lydon. “He’s a hell of a player and a big-time gamer, when he gets hot he’s not going to get beat a lot. . . . He showed his talent and proved he was one of the best players on the field.”

Adding to the String King offense were Lincoln-Sudbury senior Eric Holden (2 goals, 2 assists) and Nobles senior George Loring (3 goals).

“It’s a great opportunity for these guys,” Lydon said. “They earned it being out here. There are a ton of talented players and to come together with some of the best players in the state really showed.”

Team STX got strong performances from Medfield senior John MacLean, who notched two goals in the loss, and Roxbury Latin’s Will Weitzel, who was selected Team STX’s game MVP after posting a goal and an assist.
