Possibilities for the Bruins
The Bruins have the 14th and 29th selections in the first round of tonight's draft at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo. Here are a few names the B's could be targeting with their first pick, should they choose to keep it: D CHARLIE MCAVOY
Last season: Boston university Hometown: Long Beach, N.y. Ht: 6-0 Wt: 205 Shoots: Right Skinny: McAvoy saw ample time with the Terriers in a top-4 role in his freshman season. He projects to be a mobile, point-producing Dman. He had 3-2225 totals
LW KIEFFER BELLOWS
Last season: National Development Program Hometown: Edina, Minn. Ht: 6-0 Wt: 196 Shoots: Left Skinny: Bellows, committed to go to Boston university next season, plays a bit like his father, Brian Bellows. He's a strong power forward with a good scoring touch. He had 50 goals in 62 games this year.
D JAKE BEAN
Last season: Calgary Hitmen (WHL) Hometown: Calgary, Alta. Ht: 6-0 Wt: 173 Shoots: Left Skinny: A late bloomer, Bean had 24 goals for the Hitmen, tops for WHL defensemen, and is a strong passer. Considered poised and intelligent. His father, John, is the COO of the Calgary Flames, who have the sixth pick.
D JAKOB CHYCHRUN
Last season: Sarnia Sting (OHL) Hometown: Boca Raton, Fla. Ht: 6-2 Wt: 205 Shoots: Left Skinny: The B's would have to get lucky and have Chychrun drop a bit, but he's impressive. Considered a strong two-way defender, he notched 11-38-49 totals in 62 games for Sarnia. His father Jeff, and uncle Luke Richardson, played in the NHL.
D DANTE FABBRO
Last season: Penticton (BCHL) Hometown: Coquitlam, B.C. Ht: 6-0 Wt: 189 Shoots: Right Skinny: yet another Bu-bound prospect, Fabbro had eye-popping offensive numbers (14-53-67 in 45 games) while playing Junior A. He is known for his intelligence and good first pass. He played in Penticton with Tyson Jost, also a projected first-rounder.
