Democrats glad to flee Philadelphia

- Tom SHATTUCK

PHILADELPHIA — It’s a good thing the decorative DNC signage is coming down all over Philadelphia. Most Democrats could do without the reminders of a week gone wildly wrong, a week which is the second in a row whose primary beneficiary is Donald J. Trump.

The passion and enthusiasm came to this city in support of Bernie Sanders and it leaves orphaned but resolved.

The movement is repulsed by Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party establishment and always will be. They will never vote for her, but some may find a home with Jill Stein, who could face Clinton on the debate stage, if she ever reaches 15 percent in the polls.

Even the thought of a far lower percentage than that is enough to give the Democratic establishment a violent heart attack.

The WikiLeaks scandal continues to be toxic and media reports are trickling out of chaos at the DNC.

With more leaked emails that could drop at any time, you can bet on multiple Democrats throwing multiple other Democrats under multiple buses in the very near future.

Disgraced ex-chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz remained in town days after her ouster, in exile on the inside, while her primary foe Tim Canova reported big fundraising gains.

It is very possible that Wasserman Schultz’s name may soon be added to the pile of others whose political careers have been ended indirectly or otherwise by Donald Trump.

A sure sign that the email scandal had gotten in the heads of attendees and press at the Wells Fargo Arena was the fevered effort to push contrived Trump scandals into the news cycle.

Oscar-worthy performances by media types and pundits to appear deeply aggrieved by Trump’s “unthinkable” statements about the Russians filled Radio Row and news broadcasts from every corner.

Democrats here are tenacious and shameless at once.

Yesterday they trotted their faux scandal du jour: Melania Trump may not have actually earned an undergraduate degree in architecture from the University of Ljubljana, in Slovenia. She may have — brace yourselves — dropped out to become a model.

You read that right. Democrats and their leashed media are actually going with that. They must not have watched the Republican primary if they think that is going to be the end of the Trump campaign.

It’s been a good couple of weeks for Donald Trump. No doubt he’s got his feet up, watching all of this on TV on his jet — maybe printing off an architecture degree from Trump University for Melania.
