Edward J. Hartnett, 84, of Leicester, Navy vet

Edward J. “Gabby” Hartnett of Leicester died Wednesday at Life Care Center in Auburn. He was 84.

Mr. Hartnett was born in Worcester.

He was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Hartnett worked as a foreman for the city of Worcester DPW Streets Department for 38 years and as a bartender at Herbie’s in Worcester for many years. He worked for Central Mass. Safety Council as a driving instructor after retiring.

Mr. Hartnett was a longtime member of the Main South American Legion Post 341 and was a communican­t of St. Pius X Church in Leicester.

He enjoyed watching Notre Dame and Holy Cross football games and the Red Sox.

Mr. Hartnett is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia A. Dorr; three sons, Kevin E. of Rutland, Francis X. of Auburn and Daniel P. of Oxford; three daughters, Susan M. of Auburn, Maureen A. Hart of Spencer and Deborah A. Ericson of Dayville, Conn.; nine grandchild­ren, a great-granddaugh­ter and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Church, Leicester.

Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Leicester.
