Margaret A. O’Brien, at 78, of Quincy, South Shore artist
Margaret A. (Perucich) O’Brien of Quincy, formerly of Braintree, died Friday. She was 78.
Mrs. O’Brien was born and raised in Quincy. She moved to Braintree to raise her children.
She was a 1956 graduate of Quincy High School.
Mrs. O’Brien was a talented artist who won many awards and honorable mentions in local arts competitions on the South Shore.
“She taught all of her kids that anything is possible and instilled in us the ability to achieve greater things,” her daughter, Julie Fairweather, said. Mrs. O’Brien was spontaneous, adventurous, loved to travel and explore new things. She traveled to Rio de Janeiro, the Greek islands extensively and once traveled the entire Irish countryside for eight weeks. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed dancing, oil painting and home renovations.
Mrs. O’Brien was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Quincy and created floral arrangements for the altar of her church all year round.
Wife of the late Richard Thomas, Mrs. O’Brien is survived by three daughters, Keri Ann of Walpole, Julie Fairweather of Wakefield and Kristen Carmel Murphy of Quincy; two sons, Richard T. of Quincy and Gary S. of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, June Gurney of Hanover; a brother, Jack Perucich of Roslindale; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Squantum Yacht Club, Quincy.
