Thriller views rule at The Eddy

A just-opened 259-unit apartment tower in East Boston is all about panoramic views of the harbor and the city.

Developed by Troy Boston and 315 on A builder Gerding Edlen, The Eddy sits on a four-acre site along the Eastie waterfront, affording unobstructed views from just about every apartment as well as from its second-floor common amenity spaces.

The common chef's kitchen — outfitted with a gas stove, wall oven and white quartz countertops — has seating along two walls of windows overlooking Boston Harbor. The kitchen opens onto an outdoor terrace outfitted with grilling stations, and a ramp leads up to an outdoor pool.

The common roof deck atop the 16-story stone, brick and metal building offers the most panoramic views, from the Harbor Islands all the way around to Charlestown. And the Harborwalk area behind the complex includes a garden, lawn and a landing for a water taxi shuttle to the city. It connects to the city's recently redone LoPresti Park.

The Eddy is 20 percent leased, says community manager Courtney Henderson of Greystar, who says another big draw is the property's location, a fiveminute walk to the Maverick Blue Line T station.

“We're getting a lot of professionals renting here who work in the Financial District, because it's just two stops to State Street on the Blue Line, and an 11-minute water taxi ride to the city,” Henderson says. “And empty-nesters are coming here too, because it's like having a home on the water.”

Studios averaging 490 square feet range from $1,800 to $2,800 a month; one bedrooms of about 613 square feet rent for $2,150 to $3,425. Two bedrooms, averaging 900 square feet, go from $3,200-$4,525. Parking in the building's stacked parking garage runs $199 a month. The complex, which has a pet washing station, charges $35-$100 a month for dogs and $35 a month for cats.

We took a look at staged model unit 1014, a corner two-bedroom, 950-square-foot apartment renting for $3,625 a month. The living/dining/ kitchen area with Kimber wood-laminate floors features two walls of floorto-ceiling windows with views of Boston Harbor on one side and Charlestown on the other.

The kitchen has a dozen white cabinets and gray quartz countertops with a blue porcelain tile backsplash. Frigidaire stainless appliances includes a refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave as well as an electric cooktop and oven.

The master bedroom has a floor-to-ceiling window looking across the harbor, as well as an en-suite porcelain tile bathroom, with a glass-doored walk-in shower and a gray quartztopped vanity.

The second bedroom overlooks Charlestown, and its full porcelain-tiled bathroom features a deep soaking tub.

There's a closet with stacked washer and dryer, and the unit features a Nest thermostat and LED lighting.

The Eddy also has a full fitness center, a resident lounge, music room and two meeting spaces in the second-floor amenities area.

Former Beehive and Pigalle chef Marc Orfaly is developing a restaurant in the complex for the owners of Charlestown's Pier 6 that will be located in a glass pavilion beneath the Eddy's swimming pool.
