After losing in the morning foursomes, Sergio Garcia teamed with Ryder Cup rookie Rafa Cabrera Bello to defeat Ryan Moore and J.B. Holmes 3-and-2 to improve his Ryder Cup record to a remarkable 19-10-5.

Playing with Martin Kaymer in the morning foursomes against

Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson, Garcia’s group was overwhelmed on the back side, losing five straight holes to come up a 4-and-2 loser. Garcia seemed unruffled, as he proved in the afternoon when he came out with fellow Spaniard Bello and ended the match by winning the 16th hole.

“I love it,” Garcia said. “This is very special for me. I said that wrong. Very special for us. To play with this guy he was a rock out there.”

So was Garcia, as he usually is in Ryder Cup play. After the disappointing morning session, Garcia spoke of the raucous crowds and his hopes for the afternoon session.

“Obviously they are very excited,” Garcia said. “They should be. But it’s our job to hopefully quiet them down a little bit and see if we can do that this afternoon.”

Which he successfully helped the Europeans do.
