Mo goes to bat for Papi’s legacy

A former MVP believes David Ortiz has cemented his place on Boston’s Mount Rushmore.

Mo Vaughn joined Herald Radio yesterday to promote his “MVP Collections” line of clothing, and said Ortiz is reaping what he’s sown in his final season.

“He’s earned every bit of it,” Vaughn said. “I think now he has a seat at the table with the Tom Bradys, the Larry Birds, himself, the Bobby Orrs. All the greats can be mixed and matched, but his seat is enshrined at that table also.”

Vaughn was the AL MVP in 1995, and believes playing for the Sox is different now than it was in the ’90s. The slugger contends that John Henry and Co. have engineered a culture change from the ownership chair.

“You are working for ownership that is putting you in position (to win), so why not just seize the moment?” Vaughn said. “It’s tough, it’s a tough place to play, but at least you know coming here that you’re going to be in it every year.”

Vaughn also offered his two cents on the Sox’ playoff chances, and explained what the 2004 World Series meant to former players. You can listen to the interview in it’s entirety on bostonherald.com.
