Thanks to 22 unanswered points in the second half, host Lawrence Academy rallied to take down Governor’s

Academy, 29-14, in an Independent School League contest yesterday in Groton.

The Governors took a 14-7 lead when Quintan Stott, ran back the second half kickoff 90 yards for the score. But Lawrence Academy (2-0) allowed just four first downs and less than 100 total yards the rest of the way.

“The defense played really, really well,” LA coach Paul Zukauskas said after his club’s ninth straight win. “They hit us with the wheel route on the first touchdown, and then they returned it. Other than that, we stopped the run and made some good plays.”

It was the run game that was the story for the Spartans, as AJ Dillon and Glenn Smith totaled 226 yards on 44 carries, with each scoring a second half touchdown.

Dillon scored on fourthand-goal from the Governor’s 3-yard line to knot the score 14-14. Smith put the game away with 9:38 to play with a 73-yard run.

Early in the fourth quarter, the LA defense pushed the Govs backward, forcing a punt on fourth-and-28 from their own 3.
