Body found believed to be N.H. teenager
The body of a young man found in the Merrimack River in Tyngsboro yesterday has been tentatively identified as that of missing 16-year-old Jacob Goulet.
The Nashua North High School student is believed to have been swept down an open 20-foot-deep storm drain on Main Street in Nashua, N.H., during Friday night’s torrential rainstorm while walking home from a friend’s house.
The boy’s father, after searching for him throughout the night, reported him missing Saturday morning.
“At this time, a positive identification of the deceased is pending; however, based upon the initial investigation, clothing description and the body condition, it is believed to be sixteen year old Jacob Goulet of Nashua, New Hampshire,” police said in a statement.
“The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Nashua Police Department will continue to work in conjunction regarding this incident.”
Nashua police are urging anyone with information about Goulet and his last moments to call them at 603-594-3500.
The body was spotted by the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing just as Nashua police were about to begin a press conference to call attention to Goulet’s disappearance.
The remains were recovered by their department’s dive team and Tyngsboro Fire Rescue.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jacob’s family, friends, classmates, and the entire Nashua community at the probable tragic loss of Jacob Goulet,” Nashua police posted on Twitter last night.
Police said surveillance video puts Goulet near the storm drain Friday night.
Personal belongings of the teen, including a hat, were found nearby.
Goulet’s family could not be reached for comment.
